Idaho Code defines the service of civil process as a primary responsibility of the Sheriff. The Civil Department serves legal and judicial process papers within Caribou County, which include summons and complaints, small claims, garnishments, court issued writs, and subpoenas. A variety of other civil/criminal documents are also processed and served. Civil process service must be done in strict compliance with Idaho Code.

Fees
Caribou County Sheriff’s Office requires fees paid in advance for service of most civil process. Payment may be made in cash or by check made payable to the Caribou County Sheriff’s Office; we do not accept debit or credit card payments. The fee for service of documents is $40.00 per person or business served. If you have other charges such as recording, publishing, notary, postage, etc., please call the office to verify the total fees or see the fee schedule.

Letter of Instruction
A signed and dated letter of instruction directing the Sheriff to serve process is required with all legal documents. Physical addresses of the person or business to be served are required for the Sheriff to serve your documents. The letter of instruction must be signed by the attorney of record or the plaintiff.
